The internet is a very valuable source of information but always keep in mind that anyone can put anything on the internet. Some websites are not completely reliable and can have information that is not true. It is very important to know how to critically evaluate websites.
The 5 Ws of Website Evaluation
Who is the author?
What is the purpose of the website? When was the website made? Where does the information come from? Why is this website useful for my purpose? |
Are they an expert?
Is it a person or an organisation you recognise? Can you contact the author? Is it to inform, educate or sell? Check if it is .edu, .gov. or .com What information does it provide? What makes it easy to use? When was it created? When it last updated? Do the links work? Does it have links to reliable websites for more information? Does is have a Bibliography? Is it easy to read and understand? Does it answer any of your research questions? Why is this website better than another source of information? |
